Artwork I Want in My House

I love art--making it, looking at it, putting it in my home, studying it, etc.

In college I took Art History classes, and I loved them. I kept my book. Hard-bound and full of artwork. My husband once was teasing me while I was studying, and somehow, accidently, a cup of water spilled all over the page I had opened. I was devastated. I cried. Okay, I was pregnant and emotional, but still--it was on the page of Bernini's David. So I told my husband that he had to take me to Rome to see it in person since I couldn't see it on the wrinkled page in my book. He hasn't yet...maybe someday.

While I wait for Rome, I have had my eyes on replicas of these other beauties from elsewhere to put in my home.

The Large Turf  1503, Albrecht Durer

I just love this piece of turf. I love nature and I love these colors (the few that are there). I love that something so common, like a piece of grass, can be the whole focus of this piece and present itself so well. I so want it in my house!

I also love the message in Angelica Kauffman's painting of Cornelia, Mother of the Grachi.

In this painting, a woman asks the mother of the Grachi where her jewels are. As you can see, the mother of the Grachi directs the woman right to them. I love it! Isn't that what we all should consider our jewels? I want to put it in our guest bedroom that has these colors in it.

Well, those are just a few that I have had my eye on. Stay tuned, I'm sure I have some more that I'll post later sometime.
